This book is No. 10 in the Brewer’s Publications Classic Beer Style Series. Most of the books in the series are written by professional brewers or homebrewers with extensive experience and are geared to homebrewers and perhaps craft brewers. Dr. Lewis has taught at the University of California, Davis – the country’s leading brewing program. Like other books in the series, it covers the history of the beer, its flavor profile and how to brew the beer. This book is considerably more granular than most books in the series, spends more time discussing the commercial brewing of stout. His discussion on taste is fascinating but probably far more statistical and detailed than most homebrewers can endure. He also includes a survey of commercial stout brewers which data heads such as me will salivate over but which most homebrewers will avoid. The book contains 16 actual pages on brewing stout at home and includes 6 recipes expressed in kilograms, grams and liters. Those unfamiliar with metric will find these a pain. This book more directly focuses on the professional brewer and I do not think it fits well with this series. It is an excellent book directed towards the wrong audience. It was also published in 1998 and is a little out of date.

I found this book on stout to not be as good as the chapter on stout in designing great beers. This is probably the worst in the series. If you are getting all the books in the series you may as well get this one otherwise save yourself some time and just get designing great beers. My biggest complaints.a. Completly dismissive of the Oatmeal Stout style saying it's just a sweet stout plus marketing.b. Treats imperial stout as just a stronger version of standard stout.c. Doesn't ever define stout.d. no recipies for milk stout or oatmeal stout(see a).e. Refuses to accept porter as a different style.f. Lot's of downright incorrect information.

Clear and informative information.

I'm still working on reading this book, but the authors' writing style isn't clicking with me. I'm a home brewer and it wasn't what I expected it to be. He mostly discusses commercial brewing and has one chapter set aside for home brewers, written by someone else. In a nutshell (and remember, I'm not finished with it, but I've scanned through most of it) the author indicates there is no set formula for stout, and that the line between porters and stout is fuzzy...stout apparently having a higher originating gravity. Instead, I would recommend "Designing Great Beers" by Ray Daniels. However, this one will fill a niche in my library.

good book

perfect.

Everything you ever want to know about stout. From 1677 to the present, this book has it all.

Essential information on Stouts. Dr. Michael Lewis writes in a very understandable and clear way. Lots of good tips and tricks.

Review

"This is a truly courageous book. It's one part business-building guide and two parts Indiana Jones-style adventure memoir. And if you've ever wondered if the 'timeless wisdom' you often hear about startups is bullsh*t, here's the proof." -- Chris Guillebeau, author of SIDE HUSTLE and THE $100 STARTUP"You won't find a more honest, raw, and helpful look into the trenches of founding a tech startup than this book. Rand Fishkin shares the rare hard-won insight no one else dares tell you." -- Nir Eyal, author of HOOKED"Most books on founders and entrepreneurship sell a Silicon Valley perspective. Yet the inclusive, egalitarian vision of tech that Rand shares is the one that will truly dent the world." -- Nilofer Merchant, author of THE POWER OF ONLYNESS"Rand Fishkin is like the industry friend we all wish we had - funny, warm, and refreshingly honest about the rollercoaster ride that is founding your own company." -- Julie Zhou, VP of Product Design at Facebook "Rand Fishkin is the real deal. This book is an honest, generous and useful look at what actually happens when you build a company, including the downs as well as the ups... I wish I had read it thirty years ago." -- Seth Godin, entrepreneur and author

It’s nearly 1am as I’m writing this because I stayed up waaaay past my bedtime to devour all of this book in a single sitting. And now I can’t sleep because my brain is whirring with ideas and reflections and some critical thinking around my career and business goals. It’s honest, funny, heart-wrenching, educational, and just so, so human.I’ve long admired Rand for his work and his humanity, but he rose in my estimation that much more for putting so much wisdom and vulnerability to paper for others to benefit from. The writing is engaging and sharp, and Rand pulls no punches when it comes to sharing hard numbers, real emotions and difficult truths.I read a lot of business books and usually give them away afterward. But this one is staying on my shelf to remind me of the things I always believed that Rand validated (which made me feel so much less crazy) and the ones I need to learn with care and compassion myself.Go get yourself a copy or twelve. You don’t have to be (or aspire to be) a founder to appreciate the lessons and stories. Just read it.

A thoroughly enjoyable read on my recent flight from Portland to Chicago (~4h).I'd consider myself a friend of the author's and have had both online and offline conversations about some of the topics in the book. But it's been harder for me to ask for professional advice in person, and frankly the book is so well-structured that I think I got more out of it in this format than I would have in a conversation.Rand has always been a great writer, but has taken his writing to another level with the polish of this book. Yes there are his trademark cheesy jokes, but mostly it's filled with direct, digestible summaries of his thoughts on the economics of startups, growth lessons he and Moz learned, and how he helped build Moz's company culture into what it is today. If I had a small criticism of the book, as a former Moz employee, I was hoping for a little more meat behind how decisions were made in the startup boardroom (as opposed to some of the planning sessions he gives short shrift to in the book), particularly in the context of the economics of the business. But I can see how that kind of inside baseball would have gotten cut in favor of appealing to a wider audience. It more than delivers on its subtitle as a "Field Guide," and I wish I'd read it prior to starting my current company, as it might have steered me on a 30-degree angle to the path I'm on now. In that regard, if you're a founder or thinking about launching a startup, it would be more than worth the one-time $17.53 on Rand's advice. And I'll continue to refer to some of the tables he includes in the book indefinitely.

This book is the inoculation against the fetishization of startups and entrepreneurship you didn't know you needed to read. We're all caught up (if you're reading this review, that means you, too) in the TechCrunch articles, tales of rounds of investment at huge valuations, and wildly successful exits, that it's probably leading us to making shaky decisions within our careers--even if we're not the founders.I recommend reading this, but also an older book from a neighboring world, What I Learned Losing a Million Dollars (Columbia Business School Publishing), as another splash of cold water in a world where survivorship bias dictates the news, and our perception of reality. This is every bit as valuable to those who work (or might want to work) for startups, as it is to those who would want to found them. By understanding the perspectives of the players in the higher levels of the game, you can better recognize where (and if) you fit. Now, go forth and plot your own course. Fishkin's given you a pretty good map of where some of the dragons are, after all.

This is an honest and valuable book for any entrepreneur (or aspiring entrepreneur). In this book Rand walks you through his journey of growing his SaaS company from Day 1 all the way to the present day. In between, you'll learn about the many (brutally honest) twists and turns that Rand encountered during that journey. In fact, that's one of the main thing that separates this book from most other "How I did it" business books: Rand doesn't hide the mistakes made along the way. In that way, Lost and Founder reminded me a lot of the excellent "Hard Things About Hard Things".But what makes this a 5-star book is that Rand distills these successes and failures into actionable advice (much of which flies in the face of Silicon Valley conventional wisdom). I didn't necessarily agree with all his conclusions, but they were interesting food for thought. So if you're looking for an actionable, story-driven business book, you'd be hard pressed to find anything better than Lost and Founder.

Alan definitely has a lot of consulting experience. He comes off a bit brash and arrogant at times, but in a way that you'd like to be with 30+ years under your belt. For example, he describes subcontractors as "the delivery people...who are a dime a dozen" as if they are almost sub-human, even saying "don't let them read my book."The book has some great information, BUT, it is incredibly verbose. What Alan takes 10 pages to describe could easily be boiled down into 10 sentences or less. This book could easily be half its size. I find myself waiting for him to get to the point multiple times. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the information he is conveying, I just wish he could do it more succinctly and matter-of-factly.My other complaint is that there is a noticeable amount of content seemingly copied wholesale either from or into his other books. Sometimes it's a paragraph here and there, but occasionally it seems like an entire chapter is repurposed from another of his books word for word. He even uses the same euphemisms over and over in all of his books, sometime with only slightly different context.Other than that, however, there is good information here for anyone looking to get away from hourly billing and into a value-based system, so it has value in that regard.

I think the writer is full of sh... I think this book is based on Weiss sharing his accomplishments and bragging about them. Some of his ideas don't even make sense. I bought this book for a class and it was a pain to read. Many of my classmates shared the same sentiment as we had to review each chapter throughout the semester. I would say buy it only if its a requirement for a class. Don't buy it if you're trying to learn how to become a million dollar consultant. You won't get too much from this book. sorry.

This was a book I had to read for a class I'm taking. I was actually looking forward to reading this right up to the point where I actually started reading. Weiss comes across as awfully condescending towards any consultant who isn't running their consulting business the same way he does. He also contradicts himself throughout the book. In one chapter he talks about dropping the bottom 10% of your business and a few chapters later he talks about how you can mine your bottom business for more work. He also mentions that most new businesses fail (thanks for the tip) and then suggests that new businesses use a second mortgage for financing. Great tip. Most businesses fail so let's put our house on the line. The other big issue for me is that this book just seems so dated. I realize the first edition was in the early 90's but the last edition was in 2009. Not only has the technology moved past him (he was suggested technology that was dated even for 2009) but his whole approach seems to be stuck in that 70's and 80's mindset. What worked for him in the past won't work for him now. Worse, many of his suggestions will not serve new consultants well and, since that's kind of the point of this book, that's problematic. In the end, the best thing I can say about this book is that I got it used.

I have been in consulting for some 15 years and have learned hard lessons by trial and error. I wished I had found this book when I made my first attempt to consulting 15 years ago. The book is packed with the best advice to really build a million dollar practice. I have started already to cut fat, my two former partners are gone, do not need them to work, do not need to share my income with them, from now on if I need help it will be on a project basis. Though there are lots of advice and wisdom in this book. I found the chapter on Value Based fees to be the best part of the book. I had come to some practical methods of determinig my pricing, I have always used ROI to sell my projects, but I have not used the ROI to come up with a decent pricing, always have been able to give a 10-1 ratio from every dollar I have received or more, but now are staring to see the benefits of selling big tag projects to CEO's directly, without the need to put hourly-or -per diem fees.I recommend to all to read throughly the parts on answering objections. Those are great advice and will be very useful to change the minds of CEO's and avoid being down priced by the peanut counters that all finance dept. have. This book and a great book on negotiation from Herb Cohen - You can negotiate anything! will be a good match to get you moving specially if you are new in this business. Another and very important book for start ups is: The Four Steps to the epiphany by Steve Blank. I wished I had read it first before doing anything, basically what Blank tells you in the book is test your product/service idea first with real prospects in a real market. Find out if your product is really great and determine the minimum requirements to get to market successfully, do some iterations and test your business model and make sure there are customers ready to buy your product, and do your work before launch, this will help you avoid going to increase the stats of the failure start ups. This quote is great: most of start ups do not fail due to technology, they fail because lack of customers, I can tell you this is absolutely true. Forget the social networks, for consultants you need to meet real people and decision makers who have problems that you can solve, in the social networks what you will find is lots of people looking for free advice, consulting is not a charity. Unless you want to consult pro-bono for some real and good cause which is OK, but first make money..then else. Thanks

This is probably the worst text book I have ever read. This guy is 100% full of himself. I only purchased it because it was a requirement for my college capstone. I now wish I would have rented it. Since I can't re-sell it for more than .50 cents, I'll probably keep it in my hunting bag to use as an emergency toiletry product.

I recommend this for new and senior constants alike. Though somewhat dated, a new consultant will get fantastic foundational insights. For the more senior consultant, it's a great reminder of how to approach your business better, how to perfect your approach and apply your own learnings in new ways.

Product came brand new and as described. Great quality. Highly recommend this seller. The content in this book is unbelievable.

Tantric Traditions: Gods, Rituals, & Esoteric Teachings in the Kali Yuga by Gwendolyn Taunton is an in depth look at Tantra. This is definitely not a book for a beginner, as you must have some working knowledge of the subject matter. However you interpret Tantra, which most people associate with Tantric sex, a seemingly Western interpretation, you can learn a great amount from this book. The author has thoughtfully laid out the book in sections, which helps to disseminate the information more clearly. Truly an exploration of the Hindu religion, you will find so much information here that will expand your knowledge on a difficult subject. The best part of the book however is where the author includes a collection of spells and rituals that can help one gain power. There are also appendices of mantras that are helpful. Overall, a very informative book for the beginner and those more knowledgeable about Tantra.

Tantric Traditions: Gods, Rituals, and Esoteric teaches the philosophy and techniques of this Sanskrit word in the Hindu belief. Using meditation, these practitioners believe the sexual union is a metaphor of uniting a man and woman into becoming one with a god. While giving a layout of the belief in organized sections, it keeps this book easier to find the information you are looking for. While a professed Maverick in her political standing, Gwendolyn Taunton, pursues employment that allows her to keep her individualism and express her views. I read this book as research on the practice, but found it was not an area I would practice.

Mention “tantra” and almost any Westerner, no matter how sophisticated, thinks of weekend seminars on how to improve your sex life, with endorsements from the likes of Sting. In this book Gwendolyn Taunton -- widely published and well regarded esoteric writer and publisher -- brings real scholarship – and a hint of secret knowledge – to the task of rescuing Tantra from the misunderstandings and misappropriations of the West.Since the modern Westerner values sex and rebellion above all, it’s not surprising that only the most superficial aspects of Tantra have been appropriated. Through a close study of the original texts, Taunton shows that Tantra, far from being antinomian and anti-Traditional, is actually firmly rooted in the very oldest strata of the Vedas; indeed, a chapter devoted to study of the Hindu doctrine of cyclical time shows that the Tradition itself implies that the last Age, our own Kali Yuga, must develop its own methods of working with, rather than against, darkness, inertia and materialism, precisely in order to preserve Order (dharma) and keep the path to liberation open. For example, Tantra does not invalidate the caste system, but recognizes the mixing of castes and proposes its own, fifth caste which combines the others; in this way Tradition is honored while decadence is acknowledged and contained (rather than promoted or celebrated, as the Westerner does in his obsession with being “transgressive”). Taunton demonstrates throughout that Tantra’s transgressions are all committed from within Tradition and to preserve sacred Order. The chapter on cyclical time alone is worth the price of admission; especially as it also includes a discussion of how the Traditionalists (Daniélou, Evola and Guénon) have made it central to their own doctrines and thereby injected it into the wider Western consciousness. The most influential of these is Evola, and Taunton closely studies his adaptation of Tantra for the West, which authentic yet idiosyncratic. Taunton also puts Evola’s relations with Fascism in perspective; like Tantra itself, Evola was simply using the available material to construct a bulwark for Order and Tradition in the degenerating modern world.Other chapters deal with the various gods and goddesses associated with Tantra, showing how their multitudinous and contradictory forms are the sign of their reconciliation of mundane opposites into a higher unity.Taunton also explicates lesser known aspects of Tantra, such as the role of sacred places (“Topographical Religiosity”), and the very important and well-developed Hindu doctrines of sight and sound (“Lexicographical Gnoseology”), ritual elements which the West has paid scant attention to in its own traditions. In all cases, Taunton resolves their apparently wild and outré Tantric manifestations into well-grounded, conservatively intended extensions (the meaning of the word Tantra) of the Vedic traditions. The typically impatient Western reader who perseveres to the end will be rewarded with a chapter on Tantric spells and rituals for gaining power in the world of the Kali Yuga, complete with Appendices of mantras and alchemical correspondences; the material may be startling but again, the discussion is sober and non-sensationalistic, with no more emphasis than given by the Tantric texts and traditions themselves.I respectfully disagree with the earlier reviewer: rather than being “not for non-specialists,” this book is just what they need!

In the West, the word "tantra" is usually followed by the word "sex". Part of mainstream Hinduism, there is much more to tantra than just sex.Tantra is actually loosely defined, consisting of multiple schools that worship various deities and practice different techniques. Tantra cannot be "nailed down" to a specific tradition. The God Siva is a very important part of the social and religious life of India. Among the aspects, or portrayals, of Siva is that of Nataraja, King of the Dance. Another aspect of Siva is Sankara the Beneficent. Nataraja uses constant dancing, and Sankara uses yoga, as a route to a higher level of consciousness. Such different facets of Siva lead to the description as a God that transcends opposites and the limitations of humanity.Devi is a Goddess with many aspects which are shown under numerous names and forms. In Hindu law, menstrual blood and menstruating women have all sorts of taboos. Touching a menstruating woman is akin to touching an outcast or a corpse. A woman who wears her hair unbound is a sign that she is menstruating. The holy city of Kasi is not just a place of pilgrimage. The God Siva is said to be always present there. It is said that merely to die in Kasi is enough to release a person from Hinduism's cycle of death and rebirth. This book is not Hinduism For Beginners. It is recommended for religious scholars, university students or people who otherwise know their way around the Hindu religion. For everyone else, this book can be skipped.

The scrap yards that I remember from my youth were what the author refers to as auto junkyards. I always believed they were the one and only place where scrap went, whether it was a car being sold in pieces or put into a crusher and turned into a pile of junk metal. I never really knew that there were places that specialized in other types of scrap, but I soon learned about the long history of scrap yards as I read this book. The author takes the reader on a tour of the various types of scrap that exist. From electrical wire, to electric motors, to plastics, to cars and to steel and aluminum and many more, each type of scrap has a market and a place in the recycling pecking order. In addition, there are places in China that specialize in each of these types of scrap. Our garbage is China's, and to a lesser extent, India's raw materials from which new products spring. Each has a growing economy and a developing middle class that wants the same goods that are present in the United States. In addition, we are still addicted to buying inexpensive merchandise from China and the "raw" materials have to come from somewhere. The easiest way to obtain those goods is to come to the United States and buy them from recyclers and scrap dealers.Although that would seem to be an expensive proposition; buying a container of scrap, shipping it to China and then separating it into useful parts, nothing could be further from the truth. The containers travel back to China virtually free. The shipping companies have to get the ships and containers back to China, and they would get nothing for an empty one way trip, so they offer deep discount shipping to get something to help cover the cost of fuel. And, getting the product ready is also inexpensive as labor in developing countries is also cheap. The author made several points worth pondering. One, if the developing world didn't buy our scrap, it would end up in landfills, filling them more quickly and burying materials that have significant value. In addition, by buying our scrap, these countries are not opening mines to find the raw materials, which saves the environment and cuts greenhouse gas emissions. Imagine how many emissions would come from a copper mine, where 100 tons of material have to be moved to extract one ton of copper ore. Although the methods of stripping wire, or melting plastic in China are hardly ideal, they beat the various alternatives available. The final take away from this book is that it is best to reduce your purchasing habits, then to reuse items as much as possible, and only then to recycle. It certainly opened my eyes. In addition, I found the book to be wonderful read. The author wrote well, and despite some redundancy, the book is full of important information. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

"I never knew garbage until I knew Adam Minter." Of all the things I've said about him, that's how my husband chooses to quote me in the acknowledgements of his book?!?But you know what? It's true. I never gave much thought to what I threw out until I met Adam in 2009 and started listening to his stories about what he's seen in the last ten years as a scrap reporter in Asia. Back when I lived in North America, all I knew was that to be a good citizen of the earth, all my magazines, Amazon packaging, soda cans and plastic bottles had to go in the blue bin, the recycling bin. It was a very cleansing feeling to drop all that stuff on the curb and have it turn into an empty bin come morning -- it was like I'd done my part to help the environment, and now I could buy more stuff.I had a friend who felt the same way. She was the most vocal about recycling, and would sometimes retrieve recyclables from the kitchen garbage and tell off whichever housemate of hers had tossed those tin cans or cereal boxes into the "wrong bin." Her own recycling rate was tremendous -- her blue bin was always overflowing with DVD sleeves, cardboard boxes, shopping bags, glass bottles, etc., putting us to shame -- but only years later, while talking to Adam, did I really think hard about this fact: my friend was wealthy and had the biggest room in her house; she always had the newest clothes, the newest gadgets, and she recycled the most because she consumed the most. In short -- in a high-consumption, throwaway society, perhaps high recycling rates are nothing to be proud of.I remember this friend also being concerned about the "living standards in developing countries." She was the kind of person who consumed and threw out a lot, then was outraged by how Western trash is transported to developing nations (such as China and India), where demand for raw materials is high, so people process the throwaways of developed countries to meet that demand, sometimes in not so ideal conditions that pollute the environment and endanger their health. The government should ban exports of our junk! argued my friend. But, as Adam points out in Junkyard Planet, the issue is not so black and white. Much of Western junk would be landfilled if export was banned -- there is simply no such demand for raw materials in the West. And if you deny developing countries the ability to mine Western scrap for raw materials, they would have to dig actual mines in the ground -- and that's just as, if not even more devastating to the environment. For many people, working with scrap is a real choice they make, a solid way out of poverty. As someone told my husband in India, it's easy for us -- well-fed, privileged -- to want to enlighten the "poor people" who do this work about the possible consequences, when they want to do it because they can either worry about health/environmental consequences in the future, or starve to death today. And really, if you don't like what happens to your garbage, shouldn't you stop buying and throwing out so much stuff?I've watched my husband toil over this book for two years, seen him struggle with how to present the good, the bad, and the gray of the global scrap industry. For him the story is also personal -- he grew up the son of a junkyard man, and spent time helping out in the family scrapyard after college. He knows the scrap industry is a misunderstood, under-appreciated, much-maligned industry, and this book goes a long way to changing those perceptions -- and more importantly, making us question our own roles in the creation of our junkyard planet.

This book is intense. I had no idea. In my continuing education about the global economy and what commodities are considered valuable, this was an essential read. I had been into the recycling craze back in the '70s ( old hippie, giving away my age now...) and given it quite some thought over the years. Most recently I have questioned the wisdom of buying new vehicles every few years even to have one that gets better gas mileage ( why I still have a 23 year old car that gets just as good mileage as many newer models, has no car payments and super low insurance).I have heard the environmental argument about the recycling plants in developing countries - so, duh, if you don't like it, stop consuming so much stuff and then throwing it out. Better to go to China and get reused on some level than to dump it in the landfill. The author got me thinking what else gets landfilled that some inventive and enterprising person is going to invent a way to reuse it. As far as the conditions over there and the pollution, let's quickly get some of the more basic problems handled like proper food and water. After that, the pollution and working conditions will become a priority.I even had some thoughts about going into the junk business myself. What a way to make money. But I suppose you might have to be that person who has pleasurable memories of Sunday mornings strolling through the junk yard with your loved ones.If you are the least interested in a major sector of the global economy or you ever gave one thought about what happens after the County recycling truck picks up your recycling, read this book, it will astound you.

The pacing of this book starts out a little oddly. After every action, the protagonist seems to sink into several paragraphs of thinking about it. I wasn’t sure about this book at first. But then the author seems to get his feet under him, and the story moves along better. This still isn’t a story of people racing down alleyways with guns blazing, and that’s okay. The bulk of the happenings of any courtroom dramas often occur outside the court. Martini builds his characters and fleshes out his case, and he does so in legal language that rings absolutely true—this provides a fully immersive experience for the reader. We care about what happens next. We become riveted. The surprise ending came suddenly and without much aforementioned evidence, but it was a nice twist, and Martini made sense of it in the end. This is my first experience with this author—I found this book on a Book Gorilla deal—but it won’t be my last. I can now see why Martini is considered one of the best in his field.

After reading “Double Tap” by Steve Martini, my admiration for both writer and protagonist led me to jump in my beemer and head down Memory Lane to see where this series began. “Compelling Evidence” is not a disappointment. The story begins in a Capital Punishment gas chamber with a young callow lawyer, Paul Madriani. No sooner are we breathing normally again when Madriani becomes entangled in a death penalty case that involves a former lover, charged with the murder of her husband who was the mentor of Madriani, and about to become a Supreme Court Justice. How the novel arrives at a satisfactory conclusion is a real treat to read and follow. Equally entertaining are the cast of characters. Madriani is a nice guy, but he’s a bit of a dope when it comes to women. He has no faults, however, inside the courtroom where his mastery of the content and art of lawyering is very impressive. The rest of the cast are drawn out suitably to their station in this compelling story. Well done. I’m now moving on to the second adventure of this series.

I really wanted to give this book a 4-star review but somehow couldn't do it. If Amazon had halfsies, I'd give it a solid 3 and a half. It was a good book, my first by Steve Martini. It was the first featuring his series protagonist Paul Madriani. The story was interesting but I didn't find myself looking forward to reading it. Martini was a practicing attorney and journalist and obviously knows this material but I thought some of the legalese made the story drag at times. There were some uneven themes like the occasional mention of a call girl that I assumed would impact the story more than she did. It's dated (early 90's), and some aspects are a little offputting, like phonetically spelling out the testimony of an African American janitor that seemed a bit racist. He also refers to attorneys with expensive pens as "spear chuckers." Not in a racial way but it still doesn't sound good. He mentions things like pay phones that make you have to stop and remind yourself of when this story takes place. Good writing, solid character development, clever conclusion, definitely held my interest throughout. Liked it a lot, just didn't love it. I got a Goodreads deal on this book for $1.99. That seemed appropriate.

How disappointing. There was no action, no drama that kept you on the edge of your seat. No real mystery (ok there was a murder in which somebody was falsely accused but it wasn't even all that interesting). Just nothing of real substance here except a Perry Mason like courtroom story with a very minor (but disappointing) twist at the end.I struggled to finish this book as it just couldn't capture my attention. First of all it's a first person perspective story. I hate first person perspective stories. Why are there so many of them? Is it really that hard to write a story in third person? Ok, that's just my pet peeve. But the plot moved at a glacial pace. It took forever to develop anything. And then as the story starts reaching it's climax and the author leads the reader down a path that is almost certainly leading to the real murderer it just kind of fizzles. I was absolutely sure there would be some high drama or better yet some action with the murderer that would ultimately prove the falsely accused's innocence. But it all just fell flat and fizzled. In the end Compelling Evidence was not a compelling read.
