I received this book as a gift and expected it to contain massage instructions. As a brand new mom, I don't have leisure to enjoy long narrative about the benefits of massage. This book contains few images and only a fraction of the book is actual guides on how to massage a baby. I found the descriptions to be confusing and difficult to understand when time is of the essence. I should mention that I have a doctorate, yet I still found this book difficult to follow when it came to the instructions on how to massage.
If you are expecting a baby, if your baby has already arrived or if you are looking for a gift for someone - this is a great book! It is a sublimation of decades of personal experience and thousands of years of tradition. This is not a book meant to tell you what do to, it is a book that will offer new ideas, new points of view and potentially broaden your parenting horizons.More importantly, the book supports the parents as being the experts on their babies, and respects the baby's ability to teach and guide the parent. I believe that attunement, synchronicity, empathy and love are what propelled the author to create this handbook.
Good thorough book. Used it when took infant massage to be instructor. Has lots of information...if you just need hand positions for fir instance newborn...others may be faster to get thru. This is well worth the read
