As a Belichick fan, this book satisfied a need in me to understand the man and his approach to coaching an NFL team. This book reveals a less-guarded Belichick and is something unique compared to other fine books I have read. Having said that, this is not for everyone and maybe is better suited for the reader that has already read something about the man and the team, which IMO are one and the same. If not, you may feel 'cheated' by the sparseness of dialog and the cost. This is not a narrative. Instead, it is a series of revelations he gives to reporters on Fridays. Well, duh, but it's maybe not for everyone. That said, it gives insight, but it is helpful to have some context for the would-be reader. This wouldn't be my first read on Bill and I certainly wouldn't pay full bore for it. I do look forward to when he retires and writes the definitive book about his take. Final thought: I would be unsatisfied buying this small/short book for full-bore $ if not a fanatic, and maybe not then.
What it is instead is a series of quotes and responses from press conferences. Its highly repetitive, disorganized and lacking any flow or context. The description calls it a "rare glimpse", "profoundly philosophic" and a "collection of wit and wisdom". I assure you it is none of these things. If you want a 5-star book, try the Ian O'Connor bio on Belichick instead.
Being a long time student and fan of NFL football from the late 40s, I have long recognized Bill Belichick as the GOAT of coaches and this book which chronicles his philosophies and detai oriented strategic approaches to all aspects of football was priceless. I would suggest that the novice should bone up on Bill Belichick by reading the other great books, Patriot Reign, Making of a Coach, etc. to really appreciate this summary from his own Friday press conferences.
Well worth your money and time.interesting tips. Can't wait for a tell all book about him when he retires.
Bought this for my Dad for Christmas. It has all been said before, not worth seeking out.
Interesting perspective as the Coach is more relaxed than normal on Fridays but not a lot of detail and nothing new in here...

David Halberstam's Education of a Coach is the starting point for knowing Bill Belichick. As other reviewers point out, this is merely a compilation of his Friday morning press conferences, where Bill often rambles on with thoughts about the game of football, how to manage specific situations, and general coaching philosophy. The unstructured nature of these snippets doesn't make for a good read. Listen to Tony Romo on a broadcast of any game, and he'll run you through most of the situational permutations that will cross the mind of Belichick. I'm a Pat's and Belichick fan. He is a terrific manager, none in the game more thorough, but this one's a snoozer.
