About the Author
Phan Van Giuong was a distinguished professor of Vietnamese Studies at Victoria University, Melbourne, where he taught English and Vietnamese since 1965, as well as being the coordinator for the Vietnamese Language and Culture Studies program at the university's Faculty of Arts for the past 18 years. Prof. Giuong is the author of many Vietnamese teaching/learning materials, as well as the editor for several Vietnamese magazines and newspapers. He was awarded many medals, including the Order of Australia Medal and the International Educator of the Year award for his outstanding contributions to teaching language and culture. He was also active as a setter and marker for exam papers, such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) for many years. Prof Giuong is now retired but continues to teach on a part-time basis. Nguyen Dinh-Ho a was a distinguished professor of Vietnamese Studies at San Jose University. He chaired the Department of English, Faculty of Letters at the University of Saigon from 1957û65; served as a professor of Linguistics and Foreign Languages and Literatures at Southern Illinois University as well as a director of the Center for Vietnamese Studies; and wrote many highly acclaimed Vietnamese publications.

This is a good dictionary to translate Vietnamese words to English. Please note that the dictionary is alphabetized in Vietnamese. So there is no easy way to look up in reverse of an English word to know the Vietnamese word. This dictionary will help you if you know a lot of Vietnamese and want to translate certain words into English. The book is 9" x 6" x 5/8". It's not too big nor really compact but still easy to take around.
I got this to translate some Vietnamese Buddhist sutras. As some sutras contain some ancient language, not everything was in this book but there was enough to understand with context clues. I wish that I had got this first.

Good for Vietnamese student learning English
I'm currently trying to brush up on my Vietnamese language skills for a return trip to Vietnam after 47 years. This newly published dictionary and its twin English-Vietnamese have been essential life savers to make my study easier and more enjoyable. Don't hesitate. You won't be disappointed.
It's a good dictionary as dictionaries go. I would not say great, but which one is. You would be using a tome several inches high. I have many dictionaries as all help when learning a new language. I will say this is the one I reach for though now that I have it.
