My first impression of this book was that it was disorganized and difficult to follow. However, I soon realized that Teal was presenting the information in the most complete way possible, and she includes ALL methods of astrological prediction. She also includes detailed examples of real-life chart analyses she has done, including those of a survivor of Hamburger Hill, Lady Diana, and JonBenet Ramsey. In my own studies, I'm finding this book very useful for looking retrospectively at events, and finding what the indicators were. It may be a while, if ever, before I attempt to use these methods in a predictive way, but as a means of seeing life events within a person's Chart, Teal's work is my favorite thus far.

Golden nuggets of information buried in a muddled, overly detailed presentation. Not for beginners. If you are a professional astrologer or have a few years of study behind you, you'll be able to pull out a couple of very useful techniques you may not have seen elsewhere--the use of anilunar returns, for example, which is the return of the moon to its own place in the solar return chart. I found it to be an extremely accurate predictive device, and very simple. There is also the wonderful technique of progressing the Saturn return chart, which is a blessing when dealing with older clients still struggling with Saturn's lessons. And she does a very thorough job of taking us step by step through the process of using return charts as predictive devices--not only solar and lunar returns, but the important(and under-used)returns of Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Her advice on how to prioritize progressions is a useful reminder for everyone from beginners to seasoned professionals, and she makes an important point many astrologers forget--that the return charts reflect what is happening in the progressed chart in the same way that the progressed chart can only be an unveiling of the potential in the natal chart. My problem with the book is that it's very difficult to use as a reference work. If you had difficulty interpreting a return, you'd be hard pressed to find an answer here--no index to help you find what you need. And there are much better books on interpreting progressions and transits. I wish that the publisher had coaxed a smaller, more useful book out of this author. Is it worth buying? Yes, if you're serious about your astrology; particularly if you've been swimming in the more esoteric astrological waters lately, and need to get your feet on the ground of practical predictive techniques.

I practice astrology professionally and Celeste Teal is my favorite author. :-P especially one that is living. I have book right here by my side actually. This book goes deeper into the solar, lunar and planetary returns, through Saturn. She also has progression and transit section.The only draw back on the book was the price. I bought it maybe 5 years ago now, but I paid plenty @ $80. Not sure what the price is now but hopefully its better. In any case, it's that good, and apparently popular and sought after. I was still happy with my purchase. I've purchased hundreds, its gotta be over a thousand astrology books...its rare that I really like one, and rare that I'm not somewhat disappointed with a shipped purchase.

I bought this for my mom, she loved it. Shes very intrested in astrology and has read quite a few books and has self taught. She was looking for something a little more in depth on this subject and is happy with her gift. Note: she says she loves the charts!

I have read this book many times, and each time I discover new facets to prediction. While I am still examining if and how prediction has worked with my own chart, and if the microcosm does indeed reflect the macrocosm, Identifying Planetary Triggers uses a methodology that makes sense and is very well written. With it, I successfully identified one spectacular day in advance, though days with less aspects are harder. My advance knowledge didn't change anything, but was of interest in deciding for myself if astrology has validity. It is still a process I am examining, and this book is an excellent guide.

Not for the beginner, and the organization structure is not for everybody, but the heart of this book is worth any reading time devoted to it. I particularly like the way she approaches planet returns. She discusses Solar, Saturn, Jupiter and even personal planet returns. Her honoring of one of our astrological ancestors, Hubert Smith, by including some of his transit intrepretations, is refreshing in this current humanistic astrology era. For me, this one of those astrology library basics.

this book contains quite a lot of very useful information,,both technical information as well as good reference information.pleased with the author's writing style,,but it seems to be a bit confusing at times..as she seems to be thinking very quickly and throw in things (although very useful) in little hidden places,,so is necessary to reread over and over again. great book to have as a reference too i think.

This is probably one of the best introductory cookbooks for cooks just beginning to explore the Mexican kitchen. I've owned this book since it was published and I like it. Like several other posters the binding on my copy hasn't held up well, but that's about the only problem I've had with this book.The first chapter of the cookbook contains 8 essential salsa recipes. Each one is scaled for 3 different yield quantities and, since this cookbook was originally published before a wide variety of dried chiles was readily available here in the U.S., chile substitutions are provided for each recipe. As was very typical of Rick's early books, the recipe instructions are very clearly written and provide good visual descriptions of the preparation methods. There is good, practical material about the different flavor profiles of dried chiles and how to work with them. This is great information for the cook who is a novice at working with chilesThe second part of the book contains 50 recipes using the 8 essential sauces. Most of the recipes are fairly easy, a few require greater skills. But just like the salsa recipes, the preparation instructions are strong and reading through them a few times before starting a recipe will probably be sufficient to clarify any questions. Mexican cooking is labor intensive and for cooks not familiar with it, the laundry list of ingredients many recipe require can be intimidating. Salsa that Cooks, makes these recipes seem doable - which they are - and the well written prep instructions should provide most cooks with enough confidence to turn out a great dish.As with most of Rick Bayless' recipes, these are structurally solid and work well with few failures. This is a little book that is elegant in it's simplicity, packed with a lot of great information and equally good recipes. It tends to get lost in the library of his other books, but it's really a valuable slim cookbook. It starts with 8 basic salsas and then gives you 50 ways to use them to produce tasty food with complex and layered flavors. It's easy enough that those not familiar with Mexican cooking can produce a great dish, and sophisticated enough that the more experienced cook can find ways to riff on the dishes and personalize the recipes.Good book, worth the price, nice addition to a Mexican cuisine library

If you have ever wondered how to make an excellent salsa buy this book. The book is not expensive and you will never wonder again.This is exactly how my Hispanic mother-in-law made her salsa. Unfortunately, she passed on and I had to pick up the torch.This was an excellent guide to exploring the world of roasted Salsas. While it contains many recipes, it is more of guide to the general techniques for making cooked Mexican salsas. It is an excellent gift to accompany a bottle of salsa.*** Oct 2013I have purchased and given this book many times as a gift now. I love what I have learned from it and people love the salsas that I make with that knowledge. It has given me the know how to use tomatillos and dried peppers like chipotle, cascabel and my favorite the guajillo. I use them in these and other recipes. I now know how to roast tomatoes and peppers which significantly enhances their flavors.After reading each of the salsa recipies, they feel quite redundant. The presentation could have been much simpler, as the process is the same for each of the salsas. The how to could have been presented in one case, and then the recipes for each salsa just as ingredient lists. However, for what this book does provide I do not fault it's shortcomings.

`Salsas that Cook' by renowned Chicagoan and Mexican cuisine expert, Rick Bayless is not your mama's ordinary salsa cookbook. If that is all you want, go to Mark Miller's very good `The Great Salsa Book' in the noisome Ten Speed Press tall and skinny format. Bayless' book is much more than that, and, in a sense, much less.Bayless' agenda is very much like Ming Tsai's programme in Tsai's book, `Simply Ming' in that Bayless gives us recipes for six (6) classic Mexican salsas and then shows us how to use each of these salsas as an ingredient in several other classic Mexican dishes. While Tsai's objective was to simplify cooking by making it modular by doing intermediate preparations in advance. Each intermediate can then be used in several different dishes. While Bayless' technique is very similar, his object is rather to make authentic Mexican dishes more accessible to the average American cook.Since this book was published in 1998, I suspect many of the Mexican ingredients Bayless says may be difficult to find have become much more common throughout the United States. In these brief seven years, I have seen a great growth of Latin American ingredients in even the most provincial of supermarkets. And, Bayless himself has contributed to this change with his own line of salsas under the `Frontera' trademark. In fact, this book may in some small way be considered a promotion for that product line, except that the book is so good in its own right that this does not concern me. Bayless, in a very gentlemanly voice, says his brand of salsas may serve in these recipes, but encourages us all to make them ourselves.The recipes in this book are presented with a very novel and genuinely useful feature in that the quantities of ingredients are given for three different amounts of final product. I simply have never seen this outside professional baking recipes. At the very least, this is a useful feature when you just want to try out a recipe and may wish to make no more than a cup or two. If it pleases your palate, you can make the eight-cup amount for your next party.A second major `surprise' is that none of these recipes follow the familiar chunky `pico de gallo' style. This is the first of three salsa archetypes Bayless identifies. The second is the vinegary, hot, and spicy cousin to our Louisiana hot sauces. The third is based on cooked tomatoes and tomatillos and fresh or dried chiles. All six recipes in this book belong to the third class, which Bayless considers the most versatile and is based on the widest range of flavors.Bayless also gives some thumbnail advice on preserving and canning the salsas, but I suggest you get some expert advice on the subject before plopping this goodness into your hardware store Ball jars. Even the `Good Eats' episode on preserving and canning is scary enough about bacterial diseases to make you want to be especially careful. I would be especially careful as Bayless specifically states that he uses less than the usual amount of vinegar, which makes the recipes a bit less bug resistant. While Bayless speaks often of the now famous molcajeta, the heavy mortar of Mexican cooking, he is quite happy to see you use a blender or food processor to make these recipes.The six salsa recipes are:Roasted Jalapeno-Tomato Salsa with Fresh Cilantro used in seven recipes.Roasted Poblano-Tomato Salsa with Fresh Thyme used in six recipes.Roasted Tomatillo Salsa with serranos, roasted onions and cilantro used in eight recipes.Mellow Red Chile Salsa with sweet garlic and roasted tomatoes used in ten recipes.Roasty Red Guajillo Salsa with tangy tomatillos and sweet garlic used in six recipes.Chipotle-Cascabel Salsa with roasted tomatoes and tomatillos used in nine recipes.Each recipe is enhanced with alternatives for the main chile ingredients (although I suggest you be very careful in subbing an habanero for any other chile species.) In addition to the three different columns of ingredient amounts, the procedures for all these recipes are fairly long as Bayless writes them, as his descriptions are very detailed with lots of little hints for scraping down, spreading out, and checking the taste. Even so, the procedures are pretty long even without Bayless' frequent hints. One thing I do notice is that I am certain it is Bayless who is writing these recipes, as I recognize his `chunky', slightly ungrammatical use of adjectives and adverbs I have seen in his other books.The forty-six `used in' recipes cover Starters; Soups, Salads and Side Dishes; Egg, Vegetable and Tortilla Main Courses; and Poultry, Meat and Fish Main Courses. I certainly can't judge how authentic these recipes are, as Bayless himself is, hands down, the best expert we have for what is authentic and what is not. I also believe that if you follow Senor Bayless' instructions closely, you will be happy with the results, assuming you don't have the anti-cilantro gene or an aversion to mild to high levels of capsicum.Almost as if there is a cookbook writer's union regulation that every cookbook must have dessert recipes; Bayless includes four desserts and two drink recipes in the last chapter. This is not quite as gratuitous as it may seem, as the recipes are specifically oriented and sized for entertaining a crowd large enough to fill your house. This fits the central point of the book that includes both small and large numbers of servings.When I opened this book, I had the suspicion that it may have been extracted from one of Mr. Bayless' other books, but I was wrong. It does compliment his `Mexico One Plate at a Time' book in that salsas play only a very small part of that book.This may be Bayless' most useful volume. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys cooking. Only warning is that if you want easy recipes, see Miller's book cited above.

Always a classic to re-read e very few years

The hard-copy versions look nice and all, but I wanted to know more about the Kindle edition. And I wasn't looking for reviews of the story. That's been the subject of glowing praise for decades. I got tired of trying to find a review that would answer the only question I had. Couldn't find one, so I finally broke down and BOUGHT the Kindle one-volume edition. And the answer is: Yes, the table of contents is all bundled together at the beginning, as opposed to having a separate T-o-C for each "volume" (stop sneering, I've seen other one-volume e-books where you have to skip through the whole first section to get to the table of contents for the second section). More importantly, the T-o-C actually works. That's right, I can go straight to any chapter by tapping that chapter on the T-o-C (again, other e-books had a static T-o-C where no amount of tapping would take me anywhere and I had to keep flipping pages to get to the chapter I wanted). Everything else seems to be functioning without problems. Dictionary, highlighting, synching between my Kindle and my phone, etc., all work perfectly. And in addition to being about half the cost of the three separate volumes, the one-volume edition helps to keep the scrolling at a minimum when searching through my library.

I bought it as a gift for my best friend, and the book is absolutely gorgeous! The cover has nice fabric-like texture, the pages are white and smooth, it has lots of illustrations. The book is big and heavy, so you won't be able to carry it around with you, it's designed for home reading. Can't recommend this edition enough: either as a gift or an addition to your library, it is a great buy.

I have never read the lord of the Rings before but I have watched the movies and played the games and I loved them. However I was always confused at what was going on at times but after reading the books everything makes so much sense now. I honestly liked the books more than the movies and although they are similar the books have way more content and details in them. So if you loved the movies I would 100% suggest getting the books.Speaking of the books I got the paperback version and they are beautiful. Although they are simple and the covers are one plain color per book it still has that sense of style and simplicity. They covers and case are thick and well made. Although their were points in the books where the words were slightly faded I still has no problem reading them.I'm not even going to talk about the story since just trust me when I say its one of the best series ever. I have never read or even considered reading a series twice but I honestly think that I might read this one a second time that's how much I liked it.So if you liked the movies and aren't sure about reading the books I would say go for it and get them since you wont be disappointed. If you never watched the movies then get both them and the books:)

Review for The Lord of the Rings.I'll keep it brief, this is not a review of the actual story but of this specific edition. I have attached many pictures that I hope help you decide if this is an edition you want to buy.Pros:- The font is big and easy to read.- 65 beautiful illustrations by Alan Lee that bring the story to life.Cons:- Slipcover is an opaque plastic, whit a modern look that I think doesn't complement the book.- One or two blank pages before and/or after each illustration.Overall I think this is a great edition and it's worth buying.

I am beyond disappointed. The font is too small to read, but I thought the artwork would make up for this since I already own editions with larger font. So many beautiful pieces of art were uploaded! Where can I find this edition? I just wasted $27. None of this artwork is found in the paperback edition. Is it found in the $90 hardback edition? I’m debating if I should just send this back since I can’t even read it 😭 These books are tiny!

For some people it doesn't matter, but for me, when I bought a serie of 4 books, the covers have to be the same, but here, I have two different cover, ugly, and two others who respect the esthetic of the movies. It's supposed to be a gift, I'm very upset.

What can you say about a classic? I'd never read these books all the way through before, and was determined to try, despite remembering what I had read as being tedious and somewhat purple-prose-ish. I apparently remembered wrong - coming back as an adult, these are beautiful books, very well-written and of course true epic fantasy. It may be that my tastes have changed, or just that I've matured, but these will definitely be reread many times.My only issue is that with the Kindle version, the footnotes seemed to be messed up. Many of them only bring up a page number (with no link), which may be how it was in the original books, but others seem to apply to footnotes further down the page, or just not at all to the thing they're noted from. Frustrating.

I have always loved medieval sort of books and movies. But I had never seen or read any of the LOTR. Over this summer i planned on reading all of them and i have just finished them. What i can say is that these are amazing.You always hear about how much of a world J.R.R Tolkien creates but you never understand this until you read the book.The story and the characters let you fall into the midsts of the book with every turn of the page you wonder what will happen next.Also for people who haven't read or watched the movies it is amazing to watch the movies after you read the book.Best quote"One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."I only hope I can find another book to live up to the quality these did.

There is a lot of information in this book (actually, it is a collection of several books). Comprehensive. Detailed. The section on correct hammer motion will help both master and apprentice help avoid potential repetitive motion-related injury (though the apprentice will have an easier time of unwinding any bad habits they may have picked up!). The exercises are particularly useful to aspiring blacksmiths, addressing many of the skills you'll need to combine as you work. The layout of the book's sections is a little wonky (I'd have thought a book titled "The Complete Modern Blacksmith" would have put "The Modern Blacksmith" first section before "Tool Making"), but that is easily remedied either through flipping to the section you want or using the contents feature of the Kindle version. Layout aside, this is an extremely informative book.

The projects are still mostly useful, the drawings are excellent, and the explanations clear and understandable. The techniques are a pretty good selection, slightly limited and expanded by the author's preferences. For example, some of the tong-making includes machining steps, where the blacksmith might normally use hot working instead. The author includes a description of how to make the machine tool, though, which is beyond the usual blacksmithing text's scope.Because of the age of the books, some of the advice isn't as useful (e.g., many cheap files are now surface-hardened mild steel, so files are not always a good source of material when tool steel is wanted). Treat this as a nice historical record of how things were at the time, and know that you'll have to search out your own information, which is fortunately much easier now than when Weygers was writing.I wouldn't want it to be the only book I'm using for teaching myself blacksmithing, but it's a very good second book.

I was a great fan of Aleander Weygers many years ago when I was employed "in the trade" in Carmel Valley. I've had the first two books since... forever. The new part, while not all that practical in my opinion, is enjoyable reading. The books are a good reminder of the ways we've become frivolous and wasteful of both our time and our resources. Want a little sense of purpose in your life? Put down the I phone and go pound iron.

I am giving this two stars only because, while the content is awesome, I made the mistake of spending the extra money (and wait time) for the spiral bound version. The pages are the worst quality of paper that I have ever seen used for a publication. 80 year old 1 ply toilet paper may actually be superior.At any rate, the type and illustrations were all skewed and not properly centered, and the covers are quite flimsy as well. Overall, the quality of the item left much to be desired. The only reason that I have this more than one star is because the content of the book itself is what I was most interested in. My father built his own forge and has taken up knife-making, but I thought he may want other ideas. While he loved this gift, I was disappointed to give it to him because I don’t feel that it will last the years.Save yourself the money and order it in plain paperback.

This is just a good book, it is really 3 of his books put together really a good buy. Google the author to really get a idea of his experience and that experience is reflected in these books , full of good illustrations that match the paragraphs almost like he is teaching you right there by example and words . The author was a teacher of art for years and the book lay out matches that experience, I wish most how to books were written this way . A real joy to read and learn from .

Maybe I am Biased because ""the modern blacksmith" was the first book I read on blacksmithing almost 20 years ago. But I really liked it and I think there are things in this book that you can't learn anywhere else. I have or have read ALL of the popular books on blacksmithing and this is still one of my favorites, certainly my favorite beginner-intermediate one. It really stands out from the crowd of generic beginner books.To set the record straight, this takes "the modern blacksmith" and adds a couple few small books to it, content about making scissors (not as easy as you would think), woodworking tools, amateur machining, and little giant power hammers. This book is profusely illustrated, great for the visual learner. I found the illustrations to be clear to follow and aesthetically pleasing. Especially when you consider that the author/illustrator was practically blind, it is kind of amazing.If your into salvaging things from the scrap yard, this is for you, I think the world could use a little more Red Greening up anyways.

Lots of great info. Well illustrated. Has me chomping at the bit to make some of my own tools and in the process learn the art,save money and have the sense of accomplishment that comes from creating many of the tools I'll be using as I hone my skills ashobby black smith.

Not a coffee table book, actually. The pictures are on the smaller side and there is too much text to make it as a coffee table book. Way overpriced, but I guess people who may have or may purchase a yacht don't mind. I like getting my monies worth and this book is a waste of money IMHO.

This is a gem of book, more devoted to the art of designing beautiful details and accomodations in yachts, than to aspects of naval design. It deals mostly with relatively large sailing boats. Offers very interesting insights into what is appropriate in interior design and decoration of a sailing yacht and what is not, i.e. the type of textile designs used in furniture that would make you sick with movement while underway. Full of photos the book covers details in almost every area of the deck and accomodations of top-of-the-line yachts. An interesting and artful addition to a design and decoration library. Full of beautiful ideas. Well worth the price.

The book text to me is rather boring explaining the obvious in the wonderful pictures it does include. However, I feel the book could have made even more use of photographs. The book does have wonderful pictures, but really didn't leave me with any ideas I could use. My partially biased opinion is based on the fact that I was looking for remodeling ideas for powerboats, and this book does tend to focus more on sailing yachts. My boating library could do with or without this one.

“This is your team? A gargoyle-witch, a cat shifter, a faerie and two dragons?” LOL This is the funniest action-adventure from Emma Adams I have read. After Cory's (aka Coriander's) sister Ember gets poisoned, she receives a Dragon's Egg through the post. I can only imagine what the postman thought while delivering it. However, the dragon's egg gets stolen from her, and Cory decides to save her sister and save the egg by attending an underground supernatural fighting ring. Despite being the younger sister, she has balls. She takes no flack. I wish I had had her as a sister to show me an example of how to be strong but nice.The action is constant, and there are a couple of mysteries to solve. The small one: why is every other shifter named for their capability (ember=dragon, get it?) except Cory? I can guess, but I am not telling!While there is a love interest who also barrels into action with half-conceived plans, there is no spark (LOL) between them. It is just a story plot element. But read it for fun. I did!

I love this book. Cory is a dragon shifter who has not fully developed her powers yet like her sister, but that doesn't stop her from at all. When she meets a stranger who is also a dragon shifter she must face some serious challenges and danger. The story is engaging and I couldn't put it down. A must read.

I loved this book, it was great seeing the old group again but this time from Cori's POV set 5 years later.This addition to the world brings you into the supernatural underground where fights to the death are cheered upon, not really an area the team wants to go but that's only the start to find the item that was stolen from them. Cori meets a new ally Zeph and the wit between the two is fantastic, they soon team up along with the rest of their merry bunch and perhaps a few ghosts to find a cure for a dragon shifter poison and take back what is theirs.I love how Cori has grown up but you still see her as the little sister spitfire she is and I'm excited to see what's next :)

This is a good start to a new series with a whole new set of challenges and characters. I was surprised that none of the characters from the other books were mentioned.

Love the action, you never know what's happening next. I recommend reading embers series first bc if not your a little lost. Will get book 2 as soon as its available.

You get thrown into the chaotic life of Coriander and her friends and family, not even 12 hours after being delivered a mysterious egg it is gone and now she needs to get it back as well as work out how to reverse the poison affecting her sister. I will be honest and say there is a load of characters you meet in this book and at times it can get a bit over whelming however you get past it and learn who they are more. I really can't wait for the next book to see what happens to Kits new pet as well as the mysterious Zeph !

I love this continuation of the characters that were part of the Legacy of Flames series. Cory is the little sister that needed her own story. I enjoyed the humor that comes along with the action. I love a story that pulls me in and keeps me there, I also love a good laugh and lots of action. This book has it all. I find myself wanting book 2, hope that is soon. This is a great UF read that I highly recommend for all UF lovers. I received an ARC from the author and I am leaving this Honest review because I choose to. Happy Reading!
